POWER horses
Horses harness power with grace. As they thunder past, all four hooves off the ground at once, chancing after a polo ball with the slightest touch of a rein, you can’t help but watch in awe as the animal seems to float so effortlessly. Prancing, head held high, neck arched, almost dancing, dressage horses look like ballerinas.
The jingle of harnesses and clatter of wheels of the carriages and horses enthrals. Water splashes, ponies snort, looking for the next obstacle as riders call directions to their Trec and eventing equestrian partners. Western horses slide to a stop, back legs hinged below in the sand, and the grace and poise of vaulters displaying daring gymnastics atop a cantering horse defies belief.
I have had a love of horses since the age of five, and I am the proud owner of two ponies. Inspired by the work of Ernst Haas and Hal Eastman, I decided to experiment with the ICM technique with moving horses. Over a year, I photographed all the genres of equestrian sport I could find. I have made many more images of each genre but have decided to keep this album here manageable.
So, if you see something you like and would like to see more, or you would like me to photograph you and your horse in this style, please get in contact.
