PHOTO tours & retreats

INSPIRATION | LOCATION | MOMENTS

“This was a fantastic few days away with like-minded creatives in a fabulously photogenic location.  Charlie was a great guide who had planned everything out to the smallest detail. Although the weather didn’t always cooperate, we never struggled for something to point our cameras towards.  However, the stars of the tour were not the lines of colourful tulips, or the photogenic windmills, or the delightful meals, or refreshing coffee breaks, or pretty canals and wonderful architecture, but instead the three other people on the tour.  Everyone shared, everyone laughed, everyone enjoyed and everyone left as friends.” – Ed Burrows

Scotland a land of low clouds and changeable weather! But wow, the scenery does not disappoint. In 2024, I am working in collaboration with Ania Rolinska to bring you a photography retreat with a difference. After my visit to the mainland of Scotland in 2022, I fell in love with the Scottish lochs and mountains, water and woodlands. Ania is lucky enough to call Scotland her home, and together, we are looking forward to offering a unique creative opportunity to you.

This retreat will combine photography and creative approaches in a way which will encourage experimentation, exploration and letting go of perceived notions of where the making of a photo stops and creating a piece of art begins.

We have found a wonderful location at which to hold the retreat, right on the side of Loch Katrine in the Trossachs. Taking over Lochside House, we will have our own space for creativity and relaxation. If you are looking for a 5* hotel retreat, this may not for you, but if you are happy to muck in and enjoy each other’s company and creative journey for the duration we are together, we guarantee you a wonderful few days of self-exploration and expression.

All levels of photographers are welcome, even just those who use a phone.

PRIVATE PHOTOGRAPHIC

tulip tours

____

LOCATION:   Amsterdam, Netherlands

Duration – 1 day (Start and end time variable according to your request.  Nine hours from pick up to drop off ).

PRICE –  €600 euros total (one flat rate for your group of 1-3 people – non-photographers are welcome)

Booking this option is a Private Tour; you share only with people you book with.

Deposit: €150 is required to book from the available dates.

Pick up from a location outside the central Amsterdam area at an agreed meeting point. Pick up from a central city hotel location is possible, but there is an extra cost of €75 euros for this.

A Private Tour is a perfect option if you are staying in Amsterdam and would like a personal guided tour out to see the tulips in Holland. The day can be completely tailored to your personal requests. Sunrise or sunset out in the tulip fields is possible (but weather-dependent).

I have been visiting the tulip fields for over ten years, and I know the best locations to get you close to the tulips without the crowds. You can dedicate your whole day to tulips, or maybe you would like to include a rural village for lunch and explore the tiny canals, cobbled streets, architecture and reflections. There are a number of windmills that are a wonderful addition to the tour as well. We can easily manage tulips, windmills and a small village into your day. Alternatively, we can combine a visit to the traditional cheese market of Alkmaar with the tulip fields on Fridays.

As your Guide for the day, I am happy to show you the ‘off the beaten track’ locations that I love. But I will be guided by you as to how long you like to linger at any one location. Being in a small car, stopping for photographic opportunities is easier than when you are with a big group. If you are a pro looking for a guide to unique locations, I can offer you this. However, if you would like me to help or teach you any technical aspects of Landscape or Creative Photography, I am also more than happy to do this.

NORFOLK CREATIVE WAVES

& woodland

____

LOCATION:  NORFOLK, UK

TOUR DATE:  26th  – 29th May 2024

PRICE:  Euros €1255

My Norfolk ‘Woodland & Waves’ creative Photography Tour will take place in May 2024. If you’ve never experienced the Norfolk Coast, you’re in for a treat! Think wide open skies, beaches of untouched sand as far as the eye can see, dunes and silence.

Out of season, the beaches are empty, and you are guaranteed space and time to explore the super locations on offer on this tour. All the locations picked for this tour have a rugged beauty and are especially suitable for creative photography, which I am a specialist in and will happily give help and teaching in (Intentional Camera movement and multiple exposure photography are two of my specialisms).

In addition to the Norfolk coast, this tour also offers a day of Woodland Photography around the Sandringham Estate. Two locations have been picked for their contrasting opportunities for creative photography.

This tour offers a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in a more creative way of thinking with your photography.

A few weeks ago a group of 5 friends went to Holland to participate in a five-day, customized photography workshop organized by Charlotte Bellamy. Some of us had already done online workshops with Charlie and were familiar with her ICM techniques so we were very excited about putting what we had learned into action. The trip was a bonanza of tulips, windmills, canals, reflections and small, delightful villages. Charlie arranged everything in advance including a pickup from the Amsterdam airport hotel where we stayed the night of our arrival.

The trip was a joy from beginning to end. We travelled comfortably in a minivan, with Charlie a very careful and capable driver. The hotels she chose were comfortable and well situated so we didn’t have to do too much travelling each day. Charlie was on hand all the time to give suggestions, help and encouragement with the photography. We never felt for a moment that we were neglected. As we had all travelled together on other photo trips, we agreed that this was the very best learning and helpful experience we had ever had from a group leader.

On our final day Charlie came with us to Amsterdam and we spent the afternoon exploring areas that Charlie particularly likes, enabling us to get a feel of the city. It was sad to say goodbye after such an amazing experience with such a giving, friendly and supportive photographer. We felt that in the five days we spent together, we had become friends. We recommend most heartily a trip like this with a wonderful teacher. Thank you, Charlie for making our visit to Holland so memorable.
