INSPIRE, EDUCATE, ENCOURAGE & support

Charlotte Bellamy’s Online Workshops are a great way to explore the world of photography.  Whether you are a beginner or an experienced photographer looking to learn a new skill or build your experience, you will find courses that offer a strong foundation for learning the Art and Science of Photography.  All courses encourage the understanding of ‘why’ as well as ‘how’ to encourage not just technical but also creative skill building.

These sessions are incredibly valuable as they offer personalised guidance but with the benefit of a group learning environment.  Thus, you gain insight into your own work but also that of your fellow course attendees.  Charlotte’s online courses attract individuals the world over; thus, you may find yourself sharing your photographic journey with others from Australia, America, England, Ireland or Finland, to name just a few.

All courses include presentations on the course subject, together with feedback and discussions on homework assignments. All courses are very interactive, questions are encouraged, and ongoing support throughout the course is guaranteed.  The online courses take place via the Zoom platform, and all classes are recorded, and a private link is shared with attendees after each class.  The maximum class size is six.

Introduction to ICM  – Three Sessions

Course Dates:  17th, 24th & 31st January 2024

This course is designed for anyone with an interest in ICM.  We start by looking at why you might use the ICM technique in your photography and how it can encourage creativity and individual expression. I will then guide you to develop an understanding of the process, how the elements of shutter speed, and how the movements you make can affect the results you achieve. We will build your knowledge so that you can understand why things happen, how you can control them and how you can more creatively express your feelings in this photographic process.

Session one comprises a presentation and lots of opportunities to ask questions. Sessions 2 and 3 will be a discussion of exercises set for homework and Individual feedback, plus a small extra presentation on an extra element of ICM.  This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with limited ICM experience.

  • Time:  20:00 – 22:00 European Time (UK 1-hour earlier)

I will be online around 10 minutes before the course starts so that we can start promptly. All sessions will be recorded, and a link to the recording will be sent out the day following, with any extra notes relevant to the session.

During the online workshop sessions, I encourage asking questions and discussing with all participants. This way, the sessions remain interactive and supportive in all directions. At the end of sessions 1 and 2, you will be given exercises to complete for the following sessions. Whilst there is no obligation to complete the exercises, these do form the basis of sessions 2 and 3, and you will gain 100% more by completing and submitting these for feedback.

What happens if I miss a week?  – Life happens, and sometimes it is not possible to join a live session online. This is why I record all sessions. You will receive the recording the day following, so you can always watch it on catch-up and then email me if you have any questions. ICM & Multiple Exposures  – Three Sessions

Course Dates:  8th, 15th & 22nd November 2023

This course is designed for anyone with an interest in creating multiple-exposure images using ICM images.  Over three sessions, we will explore the creative process of combining ICM images in the multiple exposure process. We start by looking at why you might want to combine images and how it can encourage creativity and individual expression. I will then guide you to understand the process and a variety of ways you might bring images together.

During the course, we will also look at combining ICM and non-ICM images together. There will be lots of real-life examples showing the processes from the original idea of photographing through to combining in Photoshop.  We will build your knowledge so that you can understand why things happen, how you can control them and how you can more creatively express your feelings in this photographic process.

ICM – Deep Dive Six Concepts Course –  Six Sessions

Course Dates:  16th, 30th January & 20th February 2024

5th, 19th March & 2nd April 2024

So many individuals who followed the Deep Dive course asked what was next! So, I have created Deep Dive Further as a follow on. Aimed at those with a good understanding of ICM, this course.

Similar to the Deep Dive course, this course is also run over six sessions. This course is aimed at developing your creativity further. However, rather than subjects, you will be encouraged to interpret words and concepts using the ICM technique. Concepts include light and dark, lines, colour, contrast, and abstraction.

If you enjoy experimenting and developing an understanding of the elements that create a compelling ICM image, this will be the perfect course for you, with lots of valuable individual feedback and an opportunity to discuss any challenges you find or questions that you have. Once again, I hope to encourage you to step outside your comfort zone and experiment to develop your ICM journey further. By the end of the course, I hope you will have further extended your knowledge and understanding of the ICM technique and how its possibilities go further than just a technical process.

In addition to the presentation each session, you will be asked to submit a homework/exercise assignment in response to each presentation. From this, you will gain timely and valuable individual feedback and an opportunity to discuss any challenges you found or questions that you have.

Starting in January, this course will hopefully kick-start you through the remaining winter months with some direction and encouragement to try new things with your photography.

PERSONAL PROJECT

year-long group mentoring

____

NEW DATES FOR AN ADDITIONAL GROUP  –  2024

In 2023, I introduced a new concept idea for Group Mentoring, and it is going so well I would like to run this in 2024 as well. This one is for anyone who would like to create/follow a personal project in 2024 with the support of a close group and me to guide you on the journey.

This learning experience is a bit different because although it is a course, I would rather call it a group experience because it is going to be spread over the whole of 2024.  Once each month, we will gather as a group for a Zoom session.  These will alternate between presentations and discussions. Each of these will help to guide you through creating, following, and committing to a project.

Your project can be absolutely anything from ICM or multiple exposures through to portraits, mixed media or combining writing and images. You do not even need to have a project in mind, as the first session looks at how to generate ideas for projects.

This experience will require a bit of self-motivation, but I will be there to encourage and help.  I will provide tools and knowledge so you can work through a project gently in 2024 and fit it around your life rather than making it too demanding. I believe each and everyone has the ability to create wonderful bodies of work; sometimes, we just need a little bit of support and someone to be accountable to! If this sounds like your thing, I look forward to you joining the group.

In addition to the monthly Zoom sessions. There will be a dedicated private Facebook group where you will be able to gain continuous feedback and support from myself and others in the group and share your journey with all its highs and lows.

  • Twelve Sessions
  • Time:  20:00 – 21:00 European Time (UK 1-hour earlier)
  • Every 3rd Monday of the month.
  • Euros €225

Via – Zoom (all recorded for playback for the course participants).

How does the online courses work?  –  For this course, you have one session per month. These will be on the second Monday of each month. The sessions take place via Zoom. When you book your place, you will be sent a link that will access all the sessions. I will be online around 10 minutes before the course starts so that we can start promptly. All sessions will be recorded, and a link to the recording will be sent out the day following, with any extra notes relevant to the session.

During the online workshop sessions, I encourage asking questions and discussion with all participants. This way, the sessions remain interactive and supportive for all involved.

What happens if I miss a session?

Life happens, and sometimes it is not possible to join a live session online. Especially this course over a whole year. This is why I record all sessions. You will receive the recording the day following, so you can always watch on catch up, then email me if you have any questions

CREATING A COHESIVE

body of work

____

Cohesive Body of  Work  – Three Sessions

Course Dates:  Dates for 2024 are to be confirmed; please email Charlotte [email]

Over three sessions, we will explore what makes a cohesive body of work and why you might want to create them. The power of creating images that work together cannot be underestimated. We all start our photographic journey making images that stand alone, snapshots of individual elements. But have you ever wondered how you can get your images to tell a story or show a style that represents you?  This course starts with developing an awareness of the elements that create cohesivity in sets of images.

We look at why you may want to create this coordination, then move on to look at a number of ways you can put this into action in your own work.

There are multiple exercises in this course to explore all the concepts and develop your understanding and how you can put it into practice.

It is an ideal course for anyone wanting to understand how to make images work together in portfolios, create photo books and presentations, apply for photographic qualifications or improve the presence and balance of web albums or social media posts.

Charlotte is a great teacher – enthusiastic, constructive and encouraging. I’ve really enjoyed the three online courses I have done with her. I learnt so much, and she has created great camaraderie amongst the group. The submission of our images and Charlotte’s regular feedback to the whole group means you get to learn from other people’s images as well as your own. Highly recommend!
